Mr Alexander Leggate, Consultant Neurosurgeon at Queens Medical Centre and Balance Health Nottingham investor is preparing to put himself through one of the toughest endurance challenges imaginable to raise money for 2 charities close to his heart.

He will take on his self-created "Hyrox and a Half" challenge on Sunday 27 September, raising funds for both Headway Nottingham and Brain Tumour Research.
Working within the neurosurgery department at Queen's Medical Centre, Alex sees first-hand the life-changing impact both charities have on patients and their families, inspiring him to take on the gruelling fundraiser.
The challenge begins at the Hybrid Training Zone inside Balance Health Nottingham, where he will complete an unofficial full Men's Open Hyrox-style workout. The event includes 8km of running, alongside demanding functional fitness stations including a 1km SkiErg, sled pushes and pulls, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carries, sandbag lunges and 100 wall balls.
As if that wasn't enough, once the Hyrox-style challenge is complete, Alex will change into a giant brain costume before running approximately 6km from Balance Health Nottingham to the Robin Hood Half Marathon start line.
He will then complete the entire Nottingham Half Marathon (still wearing the brain costume!) bringing his total running distance for the day to around 34km, in addition to the full Hyrox workout.
Alex says:
"Every day I see the incredible resilience of patients living with brain injuries and brain tumours, and I also see the vital support these charities provide beyond the hospital walls.
Headway Nottingham and Brain Tumour Research make a genuine difference to people's lives within limited resources, so I wanted to do something that would really challenge me while raising awareness and much-needed funds for two very worthwhile charities.
It's going to hurt, there will definitely be plenty of suffering and dark places, but if it encourages people to donate, it'll be worth it."
The challenge reflects the spirit of Balance Health Nottingham, where performance, health and community come together to support positive change both inside and outside the health space.
Every donation made, no matter how small will make a real difference for those affected by brain injury or brain tumours in the Nottingham community and beyond.
